Harmony Music

Harmony Music

Founder(s): unknown –  b. unknown

Label Manufacture Location: Berkeley, CA

Other Information: Very little information is available regarding Harmony Music. Its most distinguishing features are its concentration on Scandinavian music and its base in California, much like Gaare Records. One of its chief performers, Ragnar Hasselgren, echoes a motif often found in folk music performers and their respective labels: a young European immigrant whose performances reflect the label’s attention to “Old World” sensibilities and “New World” revisions or popularization. In the case of Gaare Records and Harmony Music, the label provided Swedish folk songs and Scandinavian influences in the same way that Dana Records provided the Polish sound for its audience.
It is important to note that the “Harmony Music” label is distinct from “Harmony,” one of Columbia Records’ lower-priced labels.
